Day One

This is the view from my desk at work.  I have one of the best views in the office, I think.  I love being able to look out at the city - especially as the seasons change.

The Rules...

Here are the rules I've come up with so far... I'm leaving myself wiggle room to modify them as we go, but at the start here are my foundational rules...

1. At least a picture a day, but only one needs to make the blog. No more than 3 per day.

2.  The pictures have to be of something meaningful to me.   My kids.  My family.  My garden.  My vacation, etc.

3.  While I don't have to post every night, I don't want more then 3 days to go between posts.

4.  I'm giving myself 6 free passes - for those days that I just can't fit it in.  Or I'm sick.  Or I'm taking care of sick kids.  Or both.  That's less than 2% off, so I don't think that's too bad.

5.  I'm open to criticisms.  And compliments!  I'm trying to get better at taking pictures.

I think that's enough for now  :)

And here we go!!

Tomorrow is my 30-something birthday, and as a challenge (and gift) to myself, I decided to try to take a picture every day and record it here for the next year.   Quite a feat for me, as I've been so painfully bad at making blog posts on my regular blog over the last year.   At one time, I was pretty good at posting pictures of the kids, but as time has gone on I've gotten away from it - less time at the computer, more time taking care of the fam and doing other things.

Part of the exercise is a challenge to myself to find that time to dedicate to something I enjoy every day.   I've got great photography equipment and great subjects (my fam :) ) and so it becomes a matter of time.  At the end of the year, I think I'll look back and enjoy the images and remember many of the moments and smile.  I hope so anyways.

On a purely selfish note, I also hope to get better at my photography as well - whether it's the composition or just mastering of my fancy-shmancy DSLR camera.  (You know, getting it out of 'auto' mode.)
